5 SEO Tips for Ecommerce to Boost Organic Traffic

Looking to increase organic traffic to your ecommerce website and increase revenue? Here are five things you should do right now to audit, assess, and execute.

We are currently living in uncertain times, with schools and businesses closing, people losing their jobs, and so on. Some industries, such as travel and tourism, are suffering greatly, while others, such as ecommerce or firms that provide a service that people require (such as Zoom), are booming. Google has recently created a blog post series with case studies on how ecommerce SEO services can benefit businesses.

1. Keeping Business Listings Up To Date

For firms that are currently open, managing business hours and store closures is critical (i.e., supermarkets, pharmacies, food establishments and gas stations, etc.)

Regulations and hours are continuously changing, therefore it’s important for businesses to keep their hour’s up to date using local search.

My local Walmart used to be open 24 hours a day, but according to my search, it now closes at 8 p.m. That was a good thing I did before driving 15 minutes to the store. Businesses that have temporarily closed or changed their hours must use local search to keep their customers up to date. Real-time inventory in local search results is one of the features I’d like to see. I could be hallucinating, but things are looking up.

To do this there are many ways to optimize your business listings, including:

  • Getting positive reviews.
  • Updating your name, address, and phone numbers.
  • Having optimized and localized content.

2. Structured Data Adding and Updating

With all of the recent event cancellations due to the epidemic.

Many companies have switched to virtual events for their gatherings. Some events may appear as cancelled when you search for them.

3. Performing a Technical Audit

There are a variety of issues that prevent ecommerce sites from ranking well in search results pages. In my experience, common issues include: Duplicate content due to faceted URLs being indexed and not being properly canonicalized. Not having the right redirect strategy. When a product is out of stock, some brands erase pages, which is not a good idea.

4. Content Creation and Optimization

Having high-quality content that meets user intent is more crucial than ever. Many ecommerce sites contain minimal material on product pages and descriptions, as well as category pages. We also live in a world where users ask questions, and the answers to those questions should be incorporated into your content strategy to make your convention more successful.

Not everyone who visits your website is looking to buy something. Some people are in the research phase and wish to learn more about the product before purchasing it.

For example, hand sanitizer is difficult to come by these days, but not all hand sanitizers are efficient against Coronavirus.

5. Google Shopping

Google recently announced that retailers can now list their products for free in the shopping results.

Retailers will get “free exposure to millions of customers who visit Google every day for their buying needs.”

This is the most important of all my suggestions, and all shops should use it right now.
